SHIP'S PLAQUE

This plaque on the forward bulkhead of the Ilala 2's bridge encompasses the main points of the ship's history. It was constructed in parts in Glasgow, Scotland, and then brought to Malawi in sections. The ship was refurbished in 1972, and "recommissioned" by Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, then President for Life (Banda died in 1998).
