This map was published in Bartholomew's 1887 atlas. The boundaries had not yet been finalized and were soon changed following political pressures in Europe. Nineteenth century Europeans laid territorial claims across most of sub-Saharan Africa with no consideration for existing tribal regions—a fact that explains many of today's problems. The original plate measures 22 x 17 inches.
