This map, titled "A New Map of Africa, from the Latest Surveys," shows the extent of what was known of Africa at the beginning of the 1800s. Compared with the maps of 150 years earlier, there appears to be little progress in knowledge. Note for example the imaginary mountain chain stretching east-west across the continent and the absence of detail within the interior. The original map published in 1805 measures about 18 x 20 inches.
