return to gallery

The Shipobo are an Amazon tribe well-known for their fine pottery. The traditional decorations on their pottery are heavy with symbolic significance, although they are very abstract. This cloth is appliqued with a pattern akin to those on the pottery, but who can guess their meaning—only the people who understand the symbology. The entire pattern is stitched by hand.
